Matthew 6:34 NIV
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
We spend a lot of time trying to look ahead in our lives instead of being present in the moment. In this scripture, Jesus advises that we need to live in the moment we are in focused on God. The truth is that when we start looking ahead in life we aren’t as focused as we should be. It would be like someone not being able to enjoy their graduation because their concerned about a job interview the next day. We trade away magnitude and fullness of an experience when we get sidetracked. Another reason its not good to be worrying about the future is because we aren’t guaranteed it. When people talk about all the plans, they have its really either arrogant or ignorant. Arrogant if we think its written in stone based on our will to wake up tomorrow. It’s ignorant if folks don’t realize every day on earth is a gift and that we’re not simply guaranteed 60-70 plus years because that’s the average life expectancy man has calculated. We do things everyday that take us on and back off God’s purpose for our lives. Sometimes the derailments can contribute to an early exit for us because we’re avoiding God protection. God admits to being a jealous God and nothing should be put before him. So, if we are fixated on other things, we aren’t giving him the full attention he deserves. Therefore, we are putting things above him which isn’t acceptable according to his word. The best thing we can do in our lives is being obedient and experience God’s purpose for us one day at a time.
